Group Classes

All horses must have been judged in their individual in-hand classes. To be shown in-hand and moved at the judge’s discretion. To be scored 50% movement, 40% conformation, and 10% manners. Entry fee applies per group, not per horse. Multiple ownership is permitted, but all owners must be listed on entry form. All offspring entered in “Produce of Dam” and “Get of Sire” classes must be named on entry form. *Entries in Produce of Dam and Get of Sire classes must be made by the owner of the dam or sire, or with written permission from the owner, in the name of that dam or sire. (Article 1939, Sect 1). A separate entry form is required to compete in these classes

Where entries warrant, classes may be divided by age and type. Classes must have a minimum of three entries.

All division classes will be run in accordance with the USEF / USDF rules and under the guidelines of this prize list.

Equipment and Turnout:

Ø Braiding is optional.

Ø Bridles are mandatory on two-year-olds and older. A bridle shall consist of a snaffle-type bit with two reins and headstall with throatlatch. Noseband is optional. A split or single chain may be used instead of reins.

Ø Handlers are permitted to have one assistant if necessary.

Ø Handler and/or assistant may each carry only one whip or one standard lunging whip without attachments.

Ø Conservative sports attire is recommended for the handler and assistant.

Ø All foals must be under the control of a handler.

Ø All handlers of horses in the competition ring are required to sign entry blank and must be USEF members or pay a non-member fee (assistant handlers are exempt from nonmember fee).

Ø Judge must excuse from the ring any unruly horse or one whose actions threaten to endanger other exhibitors or their entries. Class Procedure – In Hand Classes on the Triangle

Ø Horses will be individually judged on the triangle. The triangle measures approximately 30 meters on each side. Ø Highest scoring horses may be asked to return to the ring for a lineup & re-evaluation.

 All entries must be typed or printed on the entry blank included in the prize list and must include:

 Photocopy of USEF proof of membership for owner, trainer, and rider and/ or handler and coach (if applicable) MUST accompany entry form.

Class Qualifications

USEF Dressage Seat Medal Classes - Qualifications for these classes can be seen in Article 1932 of the current USEF Rule Book, 2004.

MSEDA Championships - to enter you must be a current member of MSEDA & provide a copy of the Qualifying test ride with your entry. Also, see MSEDA Championship Qualifying rules: MSEDA Rules & Guidelines- 2001 pg 14, Article 111.1.3.

Great American/USDF qualifying classes will be run concurrently with the class level designated. Enter class plus pay class fee and qualifying class fee for ride to count as qualifying ride.

Freestyle Music- Cassettes, CD’s or tapes must be submitted before 8 a.m. the day of the class. A sound check will be announced Thursday afternoon. Unclaimed music will not be returned.

Friday - Sunday Show Days:  Open Classes: Adult Amateur & Junior/Young Riders Classes will be split into OPN, AA and JR/YR if there is a mimimum of 4 entrants for each class. Note OPEN, AA or JR/YR on entry.

Management will limit overall class size to 25 entrants.

 

Dressage Seat Equitation Medal Finals ·

Entry into the Dressage Seat Medal Finals is by invitation only. 

Two divisions are offered: Juniors age 13 & under and 14 - 18.

Riders must have qualified by competing in the 2003 Semi-Finals held at each of the GAIG/USDF Regional Championships.

Only the rider is judged, however, lameness of horses will be penalized per Art. 1922.5.

Prizes are awarded to the rider, not the horse owner. Mandatory attendance at the Awards Presentation in competition dress is required or your placing, ribbons and prizes will be awarded to the next highest scoring competitor.

Back numbers will be provided to Medal Finals riders and they must be positioned to be clearly visible at all times. Championship Rules 

A National Champion and National Reserve Champion will be named from each Finals class. · Horse: There are no qualification, ownership, or registration requirements for horses or ponies that compete in U.S. Equestrian Dressage Seat Medal Finals classes (other than HID numbers).

An eligible rider may compete on a horse or pony of any level in the Finals. · Substitution of horse or pony is permitted at any time before the start of a Finals class, as long as the appropriate change is made through the competition secretary to the entry records.

Borrowed horses are permitted. 

Rider scores and placing will be determined by averaging the total scores from each judge.

Substitution of horse or pony is permitted at any time before the start of a Finals class, as long as the appropriate change is made through the competition secretary to the entry records.

Borrowed horses are permitted

Rider scores and placing will be determined by averaging the total scores from each judge.

Dressage Division rules will apply, in particular:

Unauthorized Assistance as defined in Art. 1922.10 is prohibited.

Use of voice will be penalized.

Horses may be disqualified for lameness, as defined in Art. 1922.6.

Elimination, as defined in Art. 1924.1, except for e), h) and m). Saddlery, Equipment and Dress. Saddlery, Equipment and Dress as required for First Level; however, protective headgear, as described in Art. 318, is required for participation. Horses of all levels (both age divisions) must be ridden in a plain snaffle. Whips and spurs are permitted, and all riders must wear a short jacket. All other dress, saddlery and equipment rules for First Level horses and riders in competition and warm-up must conform to Arts. 1920 and 1921, except that horses also showing in dressage classes at Fourth Level and above may warm up for those classes in a simple double bridle.

Class Specifications.

Movements shall be performed by the exhibitors simultaneously; however, the judges may ask for independent execution of certain tests. Riders will be judged at the medium walk, working trot (sitting and rising), and working canter in both directions. In judging the position, seat and use of aids, judges may include the following movements and exercises as required at Training and First Level:

May be ridden as a group:

1. Free walk

2. Transitions from one gait to the next in both directions

3. Transitions from walk to halt and vice versa

4. Change of direction across the diagonal, down the centerline, across the arena, and/or by making a half-circle at the walk or trot

Additional tests from which judges may choose movements and exercises, as required at Training and First Level, to be ridden in small groups or independently:

1. Transitions

2. Leg yield

3. Changes of lead through trot

4. Serpentine at the trot

5. Shallow loop serpentine with counter canter

6. Trot lengthening and/or canter lengthening

7. Riding without stirrups

No change of horses shall be required.

No more than 25 horses will be in the ring at the same time. Groups may be divided into smaller sections, at the discretion of the judges, for safety and convenience. Judges may also limit the number of horses required to canter at the same time, at their discretion.

U.S. Equestrian Dressage Seat Medal classes will be held in an enclosed ring that is larger than a standard dressage arena, if available. 

2004 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage National Championships Rules

1. Horses with a score of 6.5 or better will be qualified to compete in the finals. These classes shall be judged by a panel of three judges, which must consist of FEI Judges, USEF “S” or Canadian “S” judges. The judges shall sit together at C and give only one mark at the end of the test. Judges shall fill out a score sheet with comments for the individual movements.

2. Application of Intent must be submitted in order to be considered for the National Championship. Horse’s registration papers must be submitted with the application. Applications of Intent must be received by USEF no later than July 1, 2004.

3. All horses that competed in the Finale class at one of the three 2004 Young Horse Selection Trials will be automatically eligible to compete at the National Championship, but will be required to submit an Application of Intent, which must be received by USEF no later than July 1, 2004.

4. 3. All other horses that submit an Application of Intent, have qualified by method #2, #3, or #4 of the Selection Criteria, and have submitted score sheets, which have been received by USEF no later than Monday, August 2, 2004, will be ranked according to scores and be accepted up to the numbers of entries available. Competition management may limit the number of entries accepted, and its decision will be final.

5. In the case of a tie, the horses shall remain tied, but shall take up two places so that if tied for first place, the next ranked horse shall be #3 The 2004 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage National Championships is limited to 12 horses in each class, eligibility based on qualifying scores earned at the

2004 Young Horse Selection Trials.

Participation is by invitation only.

Please see the complete Selection Procedures For 2004 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage National Championships available at www.usef.org or www.bfkequestrian.com websites or request a copy from USEF. Management will provide a sound system and a microphone at or near the booth at “C”, so that a short summary may be given to the audience after each ride by a designated judge on the panel. Riders should walk near the judges’ booth to hear the comments. FEI Guidelines for judging shall be followed. FEI drug rules will be followed. Tests shall be ridden from memory, whips are allowed, and errors are deducted as follows: First error: Deduct .2 Second error: Deduct .4 Third Error: Elimination


Kentucky Health Regulations & Show Requirement: All horses entering Kentucky must be accompanied by an official health certificate issued by your state of residence, signed by a licensed veterinarian who has examined
your horse within the last 30 days, and stating the horse is free from symptoms of any infectious diseases or exposure thereto. This health cerfificate must accompany horse, not sent with entry.

Performance Show Awards: Ribbons to 6th place and trophy in open classes. Ties will not be broken in open classes if collective marks remain equal as well as total points. Qualifying classes will not be pinned. Mid-South Championship classes will be awarded prize money. Other classes may be designated as prize money classes. Show management reserves the right to combine, split or cancel classes as entries warrant. If prize money is awarded for a class, it will be divided equally for each class with 60% of amount per class to the Champion and 40% to the Reserve Champion.  A few of over 50 MSEDA awards given annually at the show:

-Wool Coolers to the highest Scoring Horse/Rider combination in Training through Fourth Level

-$100 Championship class competitors placing through fourth will receive payback monies of 1st-$40, 2nd-$30, 3rd-$20, & 4th-$10

-Cash awards to Breeders Classic Champion Young Horse, Champion Mature Horse and Champion Materiale Horse

-The Garth Harrision Memorial Trophy to the Highest Scoring Horse/Rider combination at the FEI level.

-USDF/Dover Adult Amateur Medal will be awarded to the winner of class 124OAJYQ, Second Level Test 4. Friday and 224OAJYQ. Second Level Test Saturday. The winner of this medal is requested to attend the first scheduled mounted award ceremony after the class.

 

Entries: FRIDAY - SUNDAY entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis for levels offered and processed in the order received. Riders competing in Championship classes will receive priority in open classes should entries warrant. Breeders Classic entries will receive scheduling priority over ride times, if warranted on Friday, September 10, 2004. Only Championship class entries will be guaranteed IF THEY ARE RECEIVED AND ARE CORRECT BY CLOSING DATE. When entering MSEDA championship classes,you must be a current member of MSEDA and provide a copy of the Qualifying Test ride, with your entry.  Entries must include all signatures and a copy of all association cards for owner/rider/trainer/horse and must be legible. Include a current coggins in horse’s show name, within 12 months. Health certificate required for out of state horses. HEALTH CERTIFICATES MUST BE CARRIED WITH HORSE-NOT MAILED WITH ENTRY. Entries are not considered complete unless a check (US Funds) or credit card number for the full amount made payable to MSEDA is included. Entry forms may be downloaded from www.showsecretary.com.

Post Entries & Refunds: Entries postmarked after closing date will be considered post entries and will incur a late fee. Should the show be under subscribed entries will be accepted and scheduled on a first come, first served basis determined by post mark or fax date. After closing date, change can only be made to an entry if there is no other impact on any other exhibitor or official. Thees changes will incur a change fee. Entry fees will be refunded less $25.00 administrative fee prior to closing date only. No refund of entry fees after closing date for any reason.

Scheduling Conflicts: Management reserves the right to limit the number of classs an exhibitor enters if any of those entries impact the overall scheduling of the show.

Weather Policy: Management reserves the right to cancel any classes due to hazardous weather. Every effort will be made to reschedule with priority given to Championshp Exhibitors classes. No refunds for cancellations.

Bridle Numbers: Must be worn at all times when under tack on the show grounds - includes non-competing horses.

Parking: Parking pass ($2.00 at the gate) must be prominently displayed. Parking will be in designated areas only, both for trailers and vehicles. Trailer and vehicles allowed only in barn areas for loading and unloading. Non-compliant vehiclesw will be fined or towed at owner's expense.

Stabling: Permanent stalls with doors on Kentucky Horse Park grounds. No
bedding will be supplied. Straw and shavings are available for purchase
from Mr. Dever at the horse park (859/233-9702) each day between the
hours of 8:00 am and 9:00 pm. For those needing to stay over, stalls will be available until
Monday at 9:00 a.m. Tack stalls & noncompeting horses
may be limited if stalls are needed for competing horses. Please try to
share, if possible.

Late Arrivals: Bring your own bedding if you are planning to arrive after
Mr. Dever's closing time of 9:00 pm.

Early Arrivals: Before Thursday absolutely must have permission through Secretary. 

Stall Changes: For Safety - Must go through the Secretary's Office. Horses found in incorrect stall may be moved and will be fined a $50.00 fee.

Ride Times: Ride times will be mailed, faxed, or emailed approximately 10
days before the show to all competitotrs and will be available on line at
www.showsecretary.com. Times will be available by phone, from the show
secretary on Tuesday prior to the show. Long distance calls will not be
returned for ride times.

Dogs/Pets: All must be on a leash no longer the 6' and attached to a responsible person. A $50.00 fine may be imposed if this policy is violated.

Photgrapher and Videographer: On grounds.

Medic: On grounds.

Food: Food vendor(s) on grounds and fast food nearby.

Veterinarian: Equine Medical Associates on call Œ 859/255-9233.

Farrier: On grounds/or on call across from barns by show office.

Arena/Footing: 20m x 60m composite competition arenas, an indoor may be availalbe for inclement weather-tanbark/mixed footing and composite warm up pads. Separate lunge area.

Liability: Neither the Organizing Committee, the Kentucky Horse Park, the lexington-Fayette Urban county Government, the Mid south Eventing and Dressage Association, USAE or USDF or their members will be responsible for any damge, injury, or loss to persons, horses, or property of exhibiots or spectators.

Directions: The Kentucky Horse Park is located on Iron Works Pike, north
of Lexington. From I-75, take Exit 120. From other highways, watch for
Kentucky Horse Park signs. Enter main gate entrance of park, watch for
signs to MSEDA stabling (or ask for directions from gate attendant).
Incoming trailers will be admitted first time only without pass. Access to
stabling and van parking and competition area will be restricted. Horse Park
parking pass must be purchased at KHP gate upon arrival for $2.00.

The USA Equestrian strongly encourages all riders to wear protective headgear
passing or surpassing current applicable ASTM (American Society for
Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards with
harness secured while riding anywhere on the competition grounds. It is the
responsibility of the rider, or the parent or guardian or trainer of the junior
exhibitor to see to it that the headgear worn complies with appropriate
safety standards for protective headgear intended for equestrian use, and is
properly fitted and in good condition, and the USA Equestrian, Show Committees, and

Licensed Officials are not responsible for checking headgear worn for such
compliance. (Art. 318.5)
